Day 1 - Southampton to Sea

What a day. Hotel to ship to sailing away - it was a long one, but brilliant from start to finish.

Full English breakfast buffet spread at the hotel before boarding the Majestic Princess
A proper full English before the cruise - sausages, bacon, eggs, roasted potatoes, and more at the hotel breakfast

We started with a proper hotel breakfast - the full works. Sausages, bacon, eggs, roasted potatoes, baked beans, tomatoes. Definitely the right kind of fuel for a big day ahead.

The road to the ship - terminal barriers in place and the Majestic Princess waiting

The Majestic Princess dwarfing the marina - quite a sight pulling into Southampton

Then it was on to Ocean Terminal at Southampton - and what a sight she is. The Majestic Princess is enormous, easily dwarfing the marina and all the boats around her. Through security, past the barriers, and onto the ship - all very smooth and exciting.

Two drinks and a cruise ID badge on a cafΓ© counter - beer and green cocktail with Chicaco lanyard
Boarding essentials - a pint of cider, a green cocktail, and the all-important cruise ID badge

Once on board, it didn't take long to get into the holiday spirit. Pints of cider, a green cocktail, and the all-important cruise ID badge - that's the moment you know it's real.

The Majestic Princess atrium - a grand double-helix spiral staircase with gold handrails, fish-shaped chandeliers, marble floors, and a water feature at the base
The Piazza - the Majestic Princess's stunning atrium with the iconic double-helix staircase, fish chandeliers, and the gentle sound of the water feature below

And while you're getting your bearings - the ship itself is a destination. The Piazza, the Majestic Princess's famous atrium, is simply breathtaking: the double-helix staircase, the fish-shaped chandeliers catching the light, the water feature at the base, all surrounded by marble floors and warm ambient lighting. It's the kind of space that stops you in your tracks.

Multi-level cruise ship pool deck with central fountain, two hot tubs, swimming pool and sun loungers
The pool deck - fountain, hot tubs, and plenty of space to relax. Doesn't take long to feel like you're on holiday!

First stop was the pool deck - and what a deck it is. The fountains, the hot tubs, the swimming pool, all spread across several levels with plenty of space to sit and soak it in. It really doesn't take long to switch off and feel like you're on holiday.

Two cocktails on Princess branded napkins - tropical cocktail with pineapple garnish and short glass with pineapple wedge
Cocktail hour on the Majestic Princess - the holiday has well and truly started!

And then it was cocktail hour, properly. The Princess napkins, the pineapple garnishes, the lot. If that isn't a sign the holiday has started, nothing is.

Three cruisegoers on deck at the sail away party - thumbs up, wine glass, and sea views
Sail away party on deck - sea air, city views, and the holiday feeling in full swing
Two couples on cruise ship deck during sail away party - raising glasses, smiling, city and water background
Sailing away from Southampton - raising a glass to the adventure ahead

All aboard and smiling - the Majestic Princess heading out under grey skies but spirits were high

And then the sail away party. Up on deck with sea air, city views, and a glass in hand - watching Southampton shrink away as the Majestic Princess pointed out to sea. Goodbye UK, hello adventure. The evening meal was the cherry on top of a very full and very brilliant first day.

Tomorrow: Zeebrugge, and the start of the proper exploring. πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ
