Day 1 - Southampton to Sea
What a day. Hotel to ship to sailing away - it was a long one, but brilliant from start to finish.

We started with a proper hotel breakfast - the full works. Sausages, bacon, eggs, roasted potatoes, baked beans, tomatoes. Definitely the right kind of fuel for a big day ahead.

Then it was on to Ocean Terminal at Southampton - and what a sight she is. The Majestic Princess is enormous, easily dwarfing the marina and all the boats around her. Through security, past the barriers, and onto the ship - all very smooth and exciting.

Once on board, it didn't take long to get into the holiday spirit. Pints of cider, a green cocktail, and the all-important cruise ID badge - that's the moment you know it's real.

And while you're getting your bearings - the ship itself is a destination. The Piazza, the Majestic Princess's famous atrium, is simply breathtaking: the double-helix staircase, the fish-shaped chandeliers catching the light, the water feature at the base, all surrounded by marble floors and warm ambient lighting. It's the kind of space that stops you in your tracks.

First stop was the pool deck - and what a deck it is. The fountains, the hot tubs, the swimming pool, all spread across several levels with plenty of space to sit and soak it in. It really doesn't take long to switch off and feel like you're on holiday.

And then it was cocktail hour, properly. The Princess napkins, the pineapple garnishes, the lot. If that isn't a sign the holiday has started, nothing is.

And then the sail away party. Up on deck with sea air, city views, and a glass in hand - watching Southampton shrink away as the Majestic Princess pointed out to sea. Goodbye UK, hello adventure. The evening meal was the cherry on top of a very full and very brilliant first day.
Tomorrow: Zeebrugge, and the start of the proper exploring. π§πͺ
