Key Film Locations

Belfry of Bruges (Belfort)

Grote Markt. The poster image of the film - that towering medieval beast. Note: the actual tower scene was filmed on a set rather than the real bell tower, but the real thing is very much there and very impressive.

Vismarkt

The fish market with stone columns, right near Huidenvettersplein. Ray runs through it early on when he and Ken arrive.

Hertsbergestraat & Peerdenstraat

Cobbled little back alleys Ray sprints through during one of his "I hate Bruges" moments. Properly charming.

Groeninge Museum

Used as a filming location, and conveniently the museum itself is well worth a look if you're into art - Flemish primitives and all that.

Cafedraal Restaurant

Featured in the film. Good excuse for a coffee or a bite to eat.

't Zwart Huis Bar

Dark little bar used in a scene or two. Worth popping in for a drink and a photo.

Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce Hotel

The lovely hotel overlooking a canal that features in the background. Could always pop by for a photo even if you're not staying.

The Canals

The climactic showdown happens along the waterways. Very atmospheric, and genuinely beautiful even without the film context.

Port Notes

  • All-aboard time: 6:00pm - be back at the ship well before this
  • Safety buffer: This plan targets 4:30pm onboard - a 90-minute buffer before departure
  • Train frequency: Regular services back to Zeebrugge, but allow a few mins wait
  • Tram option: Tram KT runs from the port area to Zeebrugge Station - takes about 10 mins
